Emperor Musa

Known as Mansa Musa (Mansa means Emperor or King in the Mande language), Musa inherited a wealthy empire in around 1312. He controlled some of the world's biggest gold mines and his Empire was on a major route where people traded salt, ivory and gold. As he controlled these resources and received taxes Musa had huge wealth and is thought to be the richest man who ever lived.
